Da haben sie bei Sotheby's ein paar kleine Fehler gemacht, aber das IST die Rote Magenta. Vermutlich hat das Auktionshaus in der amerikanischen Version des Berichts nachgeschaut: Da steht tatsächlich Guiana 1856. Aber Frau Dr. Fuchs war natürlich das bessere Medium.
Warum hat das Museum die Marke nicht gekauft?

Leider wollte Sotheby's die Abbildung des Geldspeichers nicht als Garantie für den Kaufpreis akzeptieren ... Ungläubige!

Ich bin darauf gestoßen, daß die in unserer Welt existierende Rote Magenta noch bis November dieses Jahres im National Postal Museum in der amerikanischen Bundeshauptstadt Washington ausgestellt ist – zusammen mit dem Donald-Duck-Heft von 1952, in dem Barksens Jagd nach der Roten Magenta zum ersten Mal erschienen ist. So gehört sich's.
Die englischsprachige Wikipedia hierzu:
In November 2014, the National Postal Museum of the Smithsonian Institution announced that the then-anonymous owner of the stamp had agreed to display it at the museum in Washington, DC, beginning in June 2015 and running through November 2017. Next to the Postal Museum exhibit is a copy of a Donald Duck comic book, The Gilded Man, (OS 422) from 1952 whose central plot element revolves around Donald and his nephews, Huey, Louie and Dewey, going to British Guiana to try to find another copy of the stamp. The comic is written and drawn by the legendary Carl Barks, who wrote over 500 comic stories, almost all involving Donald Duck and his Uncle Scrooge McDuck.

Mir war bisher gar nicht so klar, daß es die Rote Magenta auch in unserer Welt gibt. Falls das in den Carl-Barks-Werkausgaben irgendwo in den Begleittexten erwähnt wird, hatte ich es wieder vergessen.
